Big Papi

Earlier tonight, while watching the Sox / Indians on ESPN, I was thinking about how lucky we are to be able to watch David Ortiz and Manny Ramierez batting together. Watching Ortiz bat, knowing the Manny is waiting in the wings, is about as good as it gets, I thought.

But even sweeter is watching the Sox gathering at home plate, waiting for Big Papi after yet ANOTHER walk off home run.

BTW, hats off to Theo for not making a trade at the deadline just because fans probably expected him to do so. Nothing on the table looked like it made sense.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but...

From today's Boston Globe:

"It's no secret the Red Sox are looking for a starting pitcher. Maybe a lefthanded reliever."

Hmmm. Bronson Arroyo is a starting pitcher. And Mike Myers is a lefthanded reliever.

Lance Bass is Gay

As my wife pointed out, the guy is stylishly dressed, well groomed, and can dance, and thus we shouldn't have been surprised.

Irony

I need to update Wikipedia.
The new definition is "spitting your gum out at an SUV, but having it hit a Prius."
That is all.

Four Things I Dislike About Country Music

I love country music from the cowboy boots to the pedal steel guitars, but here are somethings I don't love about it:

4) All the trucks. They're not fuel efficient, and encourage a dependence on foreign oil or destroying our own environment to find more of it here. Neither of which seem to jive with "country values."

3) "The Man in Black." I love Johnny Cash, but I absolutely can't stand people who claim that they hate country, but love Johnny Cash because he's the man in black. How many of these people own any of his old CDs, and like anything other than a) his mystique, which seems a bit forced to me, and b) one of the Rick Rubin-produced covers. They'll tell you they like the old stuff because of that "song where he shoots the man in Reno just to watch him die!" Not that those Rick Rubin discs aren't pretty good, but I think you see what I mean here. PS the movie was just OK.

2) The blind flag waving and jingoism. I thought country was supposed to have a rebellous streak?

1) Multimillionaires pretending to be regular dudes and gals with their drawling and fake folksy language. See anytime there is a combo of Gretchen Wilson, Big and Rich, Kid Rock and/or Hank Jr. on the screen together.

Why Did Josh Beckett Become Derek Lowe?

I guess if he turns it on in the post season, and helps the Sox win their first World Series since 1918, it's ok, but am I the only one who thought we were getting someone more akin to Roger Clemens? Isn't having an 11-5 record, but an ERA above 5.00 kind of like being president but your VP and staff are doing all the work?
